My dearest love and condolences to all of the members of the Spratt family. I grew up in Woodside with Willie and I had a crush on John when I was a young girl. Something I mostly kept secret. But, John’s charisma and his kindness and his older brother status were enamoring. I just remember him saying hello to me and being kind at St. Sebastian’s Parish Center when most of the other older kids wouldn’t give us the time of day. I also know that Willie introduced me to the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly and I imagine some of that knowledge and exposure may have come from John. There was a fiery passion within us to be connected to Ireland and I guess I must offer thanks there. I had some great times with the music from those bands and it still makes my heart stir in ways many friends I have now do not understand. I watched parts of the Funeral mass and I am glad he was sent off with Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. Had I been in New York, I would have been in attendance. My love and condolences are with you all.
May the blessings of light be upon you,
Light without and light within.
And in all your comings and goings,
May you ever have a kindly greeting
From them you meet on the road.

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. I didn’t know very well John Spratt.
What I do know, John would come to Sunnyside Gardens Park take up carpentry project or a small fix-it for the park. These were things that took time, care, and skill. They were tasks not easy to find volunteers for to do. I always grateful and impressed for his humble, ninja-style of sharing his carpenter skills. John would leave these treasures of repairs and newly built items behind. Then go on his way without the need for glory. He gave. My time as Park President was not easy to say the least. His generosity gave me hope in humanity.
May he always be in your hearts. May we live with generosity of caring in hearts and actions like John did.

Dear Martin Bridge and family,
I turn to prayer when for I believe it's the only weapon we have to help us make sense of the trials we face in this life.
For John Joe I bring to mind one of the prefaces that we use during our catholic mass:
"By his birth he brought renewal to humanity's fallen state;
By his suffering and death he canceled our sins;
By his resurrection from the dead he opened the way to eternal life;
And by his ascension to you our Heavenly Father he opened the doors to heaven for us."
Amen.
Dear Martin and Bridge and family our hearts are with you in this current trial, May the Lord have mercy on John Joe Amen

John it's hard to believe you're gone, it feels we just starting to plan our big campaign trip. It's hard to believe you're gone, I've typed 6 of these messages and none of em feel like they capture what you ment to me or how much you helped me along my way. I'll never forget the times we shared in Ireland, Sunnyside and Woodside from playing games or working on projects here and there. May Odin and his kin keep ever busy, you're plate always full and hands always busy, till we meet in halls all Vallhol

John emanated a quiet goodness that made everyone feel better. Seeing him around the neighborhood gave me a feeling of being at home among good people. We will all smile far less often without him.
