Obituary of Ilona G. Borbeny

It is our greatest heartache to inform everyone that Ilona Greif Borbeny, also known as "Ili-Mama" after the birth of her only grandson and "Pinky Nyuszko" by her loving husband, of New York, NY, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 74, on August 6, in New York City. Her sudden passing left everyone in tears. The memorial service will be held at the Edward D. Lynch funeral home on Saturday, August 17 from 2-4 PM. The visitation will be held at 43-07 Queens Boulevard Sunnyside, on August 17 at 2.00PM. Ilona was born in Kalocsa (Hungary) to Ilona Herczeg and Bela Greif on October 17, 1949. She went to high school to Saint Stephen's High School and graduated in 1968. She went on and became a geography and biology teacher. She worked in the Elementary School of Kalocsa for an incredible 20 years teaching the children not only about our world and the human body, but also about love, kindness, goodness and selflessness. She passed on these values to many children and now she is teaching the Angels in Heaven about the importance of these traits. She enjoyed helping others in need and spending time with her loved ones. She also spent a lot of time outdoors - exploring forests and meadows, hoping she would meet little bunnies, her favorite animals. She was considered to be the kindest and greatest teacher by her former students and colleagues. Ilona is survived by her two daughters, Andrea and Szilvia, her two son-in-laws, Gabor and Jozsef, Gabor's brother Zoltan, Zoltan's wife Dora, her two nephews, Peter and Laszlo who considered her to be their mother, her daughter's father and her wife, Ferenc and Karin. She is also survived by her only blood related grandson, Nandor, since she was loved by many other children as a grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Judit and her husband, Imre with whom she had the happiest days of her life. In the last 9 years, after the beginning of her sickness, she was taken care of and nursed by her daughter Andrea and her son-in-law Gabor. They created a happy, caring and affectionate environment for her. They spent 9 wonderful years together, creating many unforgettable memories. Ilona and her wonderful soul was loved and will be forever missed by many. Her legacy and kindness shall live on in our hearts and memories forever.
