Obituary of Victoria C. Sears

Victoria Sears (Vicki) died peacefully at home on Aug. 9, 2024. Born on Nov. 3, 1929, Brooklyn, NY. Beloved mother to Andrew 'Paul', and her son in law Michéal Kearney; devoted Aunt to Ricky, Laurie and Alexis. Great Aunt to Liz, James, Robbie and Millie; Great Great Aunt to Zachary, Emily and Ben. Cousin to many, extended Family, Colleagues and Friends...Predeceased by her Parents, Dr. Emil & Cel Conason & her brother Rob. Vicki always stood tall throughout her entire life. In the 1950's some may say she was a giant. She wanted to follow in her father's footsteps of becoming a doctor. He practiced in family medicine specializing in chronic diseases. Vicki had her heart set on becoming a surgical resident. Vicki and her husband, Wade decided to go to Switzerland to complete her schooling. She never forgot how her fellow classmates were discouraging her to leave school as it was a man's field. She would look them straight in their eyes and would laugh. Men dominated the medical field and thought a woman would go to school, get married, have babies and leave the field. However that was not Vicki's plan. Vicki stayed strong, proved every one wrong and graduated in the top of her class. After moving back to the States, Vicki helped begin the first outpatient psychiatry facility at Mercy Hospital and North Shore Hospital in Manhasset. She started "Topic House", a drug rehab centre starting with 63 young people helping them to resolve their drug problems vs prison term. She was extremely proud of her 50 year career accomplishments in the" American Psychiatric Association". Vicki eventually started her own private practice. Vicki said, "one of the misconceptions of her field, it was never her to job to fix her patient's problems, her job was to listen and encourage them." Family, colleagues and friends will be welcome as she reposes, at 115 Clinch Ave, Garden City, NY 11530 this Sat, Aug. 10 from 4 to 8 PM and on Sun, Aug. 11, from 2 to 8 PM. A Celebratory service of life for Vicki will be on Mon, Aug. 12, at 10:30 AM. Requiescat in Pace.
