Obituary of Mary Maikisch
Mary Grace Maikisch (Stingo), beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024. She was 93 years old.
Born on March 3, 1931, In New York City, Mary was one of six children born to Salvatore( Stingo) and Assunta (Sannazzaro), and grew up amongst countless cousins and aunts and uncles who all resided on the same city block. Mary went to St. Michaels's school. During her high school years at St, Alphonse, she worked as a manager at Barricini Candy Store.
In 1950, Mary married the love of her life, Frank Maikisch. Mary and Frank went on to have three children, Deborah, Barbara and Raymond. They raised their family on 34th street in Astoria where the family lived for decades. Together they befriended countless neighbors and continued lifelong friendships.
After Frank's death in 1988, Mary returned to the workforce and continued to spend time with her family. She enjoyed summers at the Jersey Shore with daughter Barbara and her husband Gary (Fratangelo), and Debbie and her family (Butch, Nicole and Stephan Kroski).
Mary was fortunate to spend many great years with her grandchildren, Nicole and Stephan. She was an active part in their lives up until her final days. She watched them with pride as they grew throughout the years into adults and was able to attend both of their weddings. Mary beamed with pride at her 4 great grandchildren; James, Emily, Elizabeth and Stephan. She loved receiving photos of them and giving them balloons, which she always kept in her purse.
Mary was an avid reader and Bingo player. She loved to do puzzles, much to Barbara's chagrin, and watch Game Shows. She was known for her unwavering honesty, strong opinions, and determined, headstrong and tenacious attitude.
Mary was predeceased by siblings Anthony, Catherine, Salvatore, Albey and Danny (Stingo), her husband Frank (Maikisch), and son, Raymond (Maikisch).
She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends she regarded as family.
