Obituary of Robert Emmett Toomey
Robert "Moose" Emmett Toomey, 60, passed Saturday, November 25, 2023.
Robert was born the youngest of seven children to Theresa & Robert Toomey in Brooklyn, NY on August 21, 1963. He worked for the United States Postal Service at the James A. Farley Building before transitioning into steamfitting where he became a Foreman. He had a passion for helping people and he was able to do so through various channels such as AA Sponsorships, coaching teenage Basketball Teams, and even humbly offering job opportunities to strangers in need.
In 1990, he met his wife, Evelyn Olivieri Toomey, during his employment at the Post Office, where they both worked. They married on a leap year on February 29, 2007 in Ellenville, NY. He happily accepted and raised his wife's two daughters Sharon & Jessica and later on selflessly adopted their granddaughter, Desiree, as his own. He worked diligently to ensure they were taken care of and felt loved every single day.
Robert wore many titles; Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Sponsor, Foreman, Coach, Event Planner, and even the annual Santa Claus. He was undeniably a jokester who didn't mind being the butt of the joke. He left a memorable impression on every single person he encountered.
He is survived by his Wife, Evelyn; Daughters, Sharon, Jessica and Desiree; Grandson, Justin; Sisters, Marie and Ann; Nieces and Nephews, Theresa, Jacqueline Robert, and Michael Laffan — Michael and John Toomey — Julian, Jake, and Luke DiBello — Michael, Patrick and Colleen Dechon. Preceding him in death was his Mother, Theresa Toomey; Father, Robert Toomey; and his siblings, Jack, Timmy, Noreen and Carol.
Robert will be always remembered and dearly missed by all. We know he would want us all to continue to enjoy, honor and hold onto all the good memories of his legacy and not allow his loss to deter us from continuing to do what he did best, make us all laugh. He loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing that Robert is now at peace surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 28 from 3-8pm and Wednesday, November 29 from 3-8pm at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Queen Of Angels RCC, 44th Street And Skillman Avenue, Sunnyside, NY. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside following the Mass.
