Obituary of William Oliver McMahon

In loving memory of a wonderful brother and uncle, William Oliver McMahon, age 86, who passed away on May 12, 2020, peacefully in his sleep at home in New York. A proud native of Kilmurry McMahon and a longtime resident of Woodside, NYC, New York, Willie was born in August of 1933. Willie (Jake) was the proud and loving Uncle, great Uncle and great-great Uncle to many nieces and nephews in Ireland and America. He is survived by his brother, John (Rita) McMahon of Kilrush, and his sisters, Christina (Alfie) Marrinan of Kilkee and Geraldine (Paddy) Griffin of Dublin. He was predeceased by his siblings of Michael (Emily) McMahon, Nancy (Michael) Moran , Patrick (Sarah) McMahon, Martin (Clare) McMahon and Mary McMahon who are enjoying his company now. Willie at the age of 22, joined the United States Army after emigration, to fight in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a private first class where he received a good conduct medal and the National Defense Service medal. He settled into life in New York with a successful career as a Con Edison Supervisor where he worked for over 40 years in New York City. He displayed an amazing knack for solving problems. Willie truly lived life to the fullest as a free spirit from his track days in Clare, early days of farming at home in Kilmurry McMahon, trying his hand at an amateur boxing career, trips to the Bronx to enjoy a bit of home with the sporting events at Gaelic Park with football and hurling, to a good game of golf with his nephews Michael and Brian, to making treasured memories for all of his nieces and nephews in New York and in Ireland. He tremendously enjoyed spending his free time at his "Ponderosa" summer home in the New York State Catskills Mountains where he appreciated the "Irish Alps." He was a member of the New York Claremen's Association. He was a devoted supporter of the family and will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace. Interment will be at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York. A memorial will be held privately at a later date. We will truly be missed by all
